Do's

  • Fast for 4 hours before the scan (no solid food). You may drink plain water.
  • A blood test for kidney function (creatinine/eGFR) may be required specially if you are diabetic,kidney disease. Bring the report.
  • Inform the team of any prior contrast reactions, kidney impairment, thyroid disease, or allergies. • An IV cannula will be placed in your arm. • Drink 2 litres of water over the next 24 hours to flush the contrast dye. • Remove all jewellery from the neck, chest, and upper back.
  • Remove underwire bras -you will be asked to change into a gown,chest patches. • Breath-hold instructions are critical. The technologist will say;Breathe in and breathe and hold your breath,Practice this before the scan starts.

Don'ts

  • ⚠ Note: If you are on Metformin (or any metformin-containing combination tablet), you must STOP taking it on the day of the scan and for 48 hours after. Resume only after your doctor confirms kidney function is normal.
