Do's

  • Fast for 4–6 hours before the scan (no solids). Plain water is permitted and encouraged.
  • Avoid caffeine for 4–6 hours before — especially for coronary CTA.
  • Continue all cardiac medications, particularly beta-blockers — do NOT skip them.
  • If your heart rate is above 65 beats per minute, additional oral beta-blockers may be given on arrival — inform staff if you have asthma or severe COPD.
  • Stop Metformin on the day of the scan and for 48 hours after.
  • Kidney function test required for all contrast angiography.
  • Inform the team of any contrast allergies, renal impairment, thyroid disease, or heart failure. Note: For Coronary CTA: a low, steady heart rate (below 65 bpm) is essential for image quality. Beta-blockers are routinely given. If you have contraindications to beta-blockers, inform your doctor in advance so alternative preparation can be arranged.

Don'ts

  • ⚠ Note: If you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, or feel unwell at any point before, during, or after the scan, inform the staff immediately. - During the Scan, don't move.
