Fast for 4–6 hours before the scan (no solids). Plain water is permitted and encouraged.
Avoid caffeine for 4–6 hours before — especially for coronary CTA.
Continue all cardiac medications, particularly beta-blockers — do NOT skip them.
If your heart rate is above 65 beats per minute, additional oral beta-blockers may be given on arrival — inform staff if you have asthma or severe COPD.
Stop Metformin on the day of the scan and for 48 hours after.
Kidney function test required for all contrast angiography.
Inform the team of any contrast allergies, renal impairment, thyroid disease, or heart failure. Note: For Coronary CTA: a low, steady heart rate (below 65 bpm) is essential for image quality. Beta-blockers are routinely given. If you have contraindications to beta-blockers, inform your doctor in advance so alternative preparation can be arranged.
⚠ Note: If you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, or feel unwell at any point before, during, or after the scan, inform the staff immediately. - During the Scan, don't move.
