Genetic Disorder
SRY gene on Y chromosome instructs synthesis of Sex determining region Y protein which promotes development of testis.
What is this test?
Embryos with SRY gene develop into males. Mutations in this gene result in disorders of sex development. Deletion of Yp11.3 may be related to gonadal dysgenesis or sex reversal eg. Klinefelter syndrome, Swyer syndrome, XX Male syndrome etc. SRY gene also interacts with androgen receptors & any mutation in the gene can result in Androgen insensitivity syndrome.
