HIV Early Screen (HIV 1&2 Antibody, HIV P24 Ag) Qualitative
2
Hiv Aids
This is an early screening test for HIV that simultaneously detects antibodies to both HIV-1 and HIV-2 and the p24 antigen, a protein from the virus itself.
What is this test?
The p24 antigen appears in the blood within about two weeks of infection, considerably earlier than antibodies, which can take several weeks or longer to develop. This combination therefore shortens the diagnostic window period and can identify infection soon after exposure. Early detection is critically important because starting antiretroviral treatment promptly protects your immune system, greatly improves long-term health, and dramatically reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to others. Please follow any preparation instructions given at the time of booking, and discuss your report with your treating doctor, who will interpret it in the context of your overall health.
HIV Early Screen (HIV 1&2 Antibody, HIV P24 Ag) Qualitative is offered as a lab test. Follow preparation instructions if any, and consult your doctor to interpret results.
